Pete Lewis Different Foods from Different Cultures

One aspect that many people anticipate when traveling to other countries is FOOD. When I travel to other countries, I always make an effort to try out as many different dishes, drinks, snacks, etc. as possible. I want to experience what the everyday person eats in his or her country. Despite all that, it's always been a challenge for me to get the full experience because I have lactose intolerance. Trying to explain lactose intolerance in a foreign country can be tricky. It's not so much the la… Continue

Abigail bred my first trip to kauai

Kauai is the northwesternmost and oldest of Hawaii's major islands. Called the Garden Island, it is covered with lush greenery and tropical plants, watered regularly by abundant rainfall. As the oldest of the islands, it has been changed the most by the forces of erosion, and this has resulted in natural wonders such as Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast. It is also home to more sandy beaches than any other major island in the Hawaiian chain. Lydgate State Park, Old Koloa town, Huleia National… Continue

Matthew Ridout Paris today

Paris is the city of a thousand clichés - the ‘City of Lights’, and Hemingway’s much quoted ‘Moveable Feast’ amongst them, but for once it is also a city that justifies the hype. The French capital is one of the world’s truly great cities, a metropolis that lavishly satisfies the desires of tourists and business people alike and manages to reta… Continue

Matthew Ridout Corfu 2007

I'm traveling to Corfu tonight at midnight from Gatwick for my first trip to a Greek Island and looking forward to it!

Staying in an area of the island called Sidari, which is north of the island.

The total cost of the trip was only £280.00 all inclusive with flights so am expecting the food and booze not to be great but for the price, can't really complain.

Will let everyone know how it was when I get back on the 14th July.

Looking forward to the hot weather… Continue

Osman Patel Guide to Stockholm

General overview

Spread across 24,000 islets and laced with numerous waterways on the southeastern coast of Sweden, Stockholm enjoys one of the most stunning locales of any capital city in the world. Over 30% of the city area is made up of waterways and another 30% is made up of parks and green spaces, giving Stockholm perhaps the freshest air and widest lungs of any European capital. This natural oasis is complemented by

Osman Patel Guide to Warsaw

General overview

The images of Warsaw as a dull concrete jungle, a wasteland of Soviet-era housing with little appeal remain only with those who haven’t visited this vibrant city in the past 15 years. The city does undoubtedly have its fair share of problems and whole swathes of its suburbs are indeed dominated by the less-than-imaginative creations of communist-era architects. But there is far more to this metropolis, wit

Paris is the city of a thousand clichés, the ‘City of Lights’ and Hemmingway’s much quoted ‘Moveable Feast’ amongst them, but for once it is also a city that justifies the hype. The French capital is one of the world’s truly great cities, a metropolis that lavishly satisfies the desires of tourists and business people alike and manages to retain a standard of living that makes becoming a Parisian so alluring.

Osman Patel Brussels - Home of The European Parliament

General Overiew

The European Parliament has found its ideal home in Brussels (Bruxelles in French, Brussel in Flemish). This inland capital city of Belgium, bordered by The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France, is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual city at the very heart of the EU. Indeed, it claims with some justification to be the ‘Capital of Europe’.

Belgium celebrated its 175th anniversary of statehood during 2005, but the history of the nation… Continue

Osman Patel Lisbon - dubbed the ‘Poor Man of Europe'

General Overview

Just over a decade ago Lisbon was a city with an image problem. The capital of Portugal (a country dubbed the ‘Poor Man of Europe’) was often regarde as a rundown, shambolic and poverty-stricken place. Many locals, while being proud of their lively and characterful home, found it difficult to disagree. Today, Lisbon has experienced the kind of renaissance not seen since the 14th and 15th centuries, when the city was at the heart of an empire that stretched f… Continue

Osman Patel Guide to Marrakech

The very name Marrakech conjures up images of an exotic, distant city, of hot desert winds blowing in from the Sahara, of magic carpets and snake charmers and of spices and perfumes brought in by camel trains. Set within the rose-coloured walls of the medina lies a reality that is not that far removed – a labyrinth of winding streets that open onto lush green gardens and dark alleyways leading to bustling souks. The focal point i… Continue

kismet Venice - Gondola's, Canals, Water Buses and St Marks Square!

In a biblical twist that is very apt in such a devoutly catholic country, Moses has come to save the day. Work on the long awaited project to ‘save’ Venice has finally got underway in earnest after years of political struggles. The city’s citizens have for decades endured flooded basements, wearing Wellington boots to navigate its waterlogged streets during acqua alta (flood tides), and chronic damage to some of its most impressive buildings, but finally something is being don… Continue
